Audit Report in the UAE: What It Includes and Why It Matters

An audit report is more than a signature page. Free zone authorities, banks, investors and the corporate tax regime all treat it as evidence that your numbers can be relied on.

What is inside the report

The package has two parts: the financial statements and the independent auditor's report on them.

  • Financial statements: financial position, profit or loss and other comprehensive income, changes in equity, cash flows and notes, usually under IFRS.
  • Auditor opinion: the conclusion on whether the statements give a true and fair view.
  • Basis for opinion: the standards applied and the auditor independence statement.
  • Responsibilities: what management prepares and what the auditor examines.

The four opinion types

  • Unmodified: the statements are fairly presented.
  • Qualified: fair except for a specific matter.
  • Adverse: the statements are materially misstated.
  • Disclaimer: the auditor could not obtain enough evidence to opine.

Eligibility first

Confirm with your authority whether an approved auditor list applies before you commission the audit.

Where you will need it

Many free zone authorities ask for audited accounts at licence renewal, and requirements differ by authority. Banks use them for credit decisions. Under corporate tax rules, qualifying free zone persons and taxable persons above a revenue threshold are generally expected to have audited statements. Confirm what applies to you well before the deadline.

Avoid a rejected report

Check that the auditor is acceptable to your authority, that the trial balance agrees to the statements, and that all disclosures are complete.

Key takeaways

  • The report combines the financial statements with the auditor opinion.
  • There are four opinion types, and an unmodified opinion is the aim.
  • Authority, bank and tax requirements should be checked before the year end.
